Katie Milligan - World Language & Pathways

Since 2023, Profe Katie has been the Spanish teacher at Newton and teaches Spanish to grades K-8 using an acquisition-based approach. She brings an interdisciplinary and culture-focused background to her teaching, having studied Anthropology and Spanish at Mount Holyoke College and studied in Mexico, Chile and Spain, and is very passionately involved in community organizing with migrants in the US. Outside of teaching, Katie can be spotted listening to music at all times and dancing in the kitchen, talking to her cats, going for runs with her dog, and cracking Dad jokes all day long. Seth Whitaker - PE

Seth was born and raised in the Upper Valley. He loves exploring our natural resources through foraging, hiking, kayaking, and rock hounding. He also enjoys gardening and caring for his chickens. He and his wife have a daughter, a dog named Rosie, and two cats named Oliver and Coco. Brian Herrick - Library Media Specialist

Brian Herrick is new to the library world, but has been in education as a classroom teacher and art teacher for 25 years. Brian grew up in Alaska and spent most of his adult life living in San Francisco before settling in Vermont. He is an artist, swimmer, eater of donuts, movie buff, comics fan, and voracious reader. He lives in Montpelier with his partner and two kids.

Magellan Helm/Music

Magellan Helm grew up singing and dancing in Ferguson, MO. They studied Musical Theater at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburg and Early Music and Voice Performance at the Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio before completing a BA in History and a BME in Music Education from the University of Kansas. Since moving to the Upper Valley in 2014 Magellan has taught Music at Crossroads Academy in Lyme NH and Long Term Subbed for Music teachers at Thetford Academy, Hartford High, Westshire Elementary and Samuel Morey in Rivendell. From 2018-2020 they were president of Seven Stars Arts Center. As a founding member of the social justice choir, Voices 21c Magellan toured France, Israel and the Palestinian territories of the West Bank. They continue to teach private singing and composition lessons to students K-12 at their studio in White River Junction. Magellan is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, the American Choral Directors Association and the National Association for Music Education. They live in Thetford with their husband of 25 years, a daughter, a son, two dogs, two cats, five hens and a roo. Magellan can be reached at: mhelm@wrvsu.org

Nicole Butters - Art

Nicole is an experienced classroom and art teacher who is passionate about inspiring students to find joy and confidence in creating art. She loves introducing young learners to contemporary and famous artists from across the globe, sparking their creativity with a wide variety of projects. Nicole lives in Norwich, and in addition to teaching art she enjoys hiking and traveling.
